INKEL Limited, a flagship Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative by the Government of Kerala, continues to take bold strides toward a sustainable energy future. As India accelerates its transition to renewable energy, and with Kerala facing recurring energy shortages, INKEL’s Renewable Energy Division is stepping up with high-impact, megawatt-scale projects, cementing its role as one of the renewable energy experts in Kerala.
On 1st July 2025, INKEL achieved a major milestone by signing a term sheet for group captive solar PV power plants with a consortium of leading business entities from both central and state sectors. This landmark agreement covers a total installed capacity of 23.2 MWp, marking a significant advancement in Kerala’s shift toward clean, dependable power.
This initiative showcases INKEL’s dual-pronged strategy for renewable energy development—spearheading both group captive projects and EPC-based solar PV systems. The group captive model, in particular, is designed to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly power to participating industries/Commercial Institutions reducing their carbon footprint while enhancing energy security.
At the helm of this renewable energy transformation is Dr. K. Ellangovan, Managing Director of INKEL Limited. His visionary leadership has been instrumental in shaping INKEL’s strategic focus and accelerating the development of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure across Kerala.
Kerala, like many parts of India, continues to face significant energy challenges. INKEL’s investments in solar and wind power mainly aim not only to address these issues but also to build a more reliable and self-sufficient green energy ecosystem. The group captive model enables large power consumers to co-own the energy they consume, aligning financial interests with environmental responsibility- an approach that reinforces INKEL’s position as one of the most forward-looking renewable energy experts in Kerala.
Group captive solar solutions are fast emerging as one of the most sustainable and cost-efficient energy alternatives. They enable industries to fulfil their power needs while complying with renewable energy mandates. INKEL’s integrated approach—combining group captive and EPC delivery models—offers flexibility and performance tailored to industrial and commercial consumers.
These solar PV projects are being developed to meet specific consumer requirements, delivering significant long-term cost savings and energy reliability. In addition, INKEL is actively exploring megawatt-scale wind and hybrid renewable energy systems to further diversify and strengthen its green energy portfolio.
Group captive power plants offer shared ownership among consumers, enabling them to benefit from:
For energy-intensive industries, this model provides a reliable and future-ready power solution that supports both economic growth and environmental stewardship.
Beyond this landmark development, INKEL is preparing an ambitious pipeline of renewable energy initiatives aimed at reinforcing Kerala’s energy grid and boosting resilience. Upcoming projects include:
As one of the most trusted renewable energy experts in Kerala, INKEL is building on its momentum through partnerships with industries, local bodies, and global energy leaders—working to make Kerala a model state in clean energy transformation.
We invite stakeholders across sectors to collaborate with us as we build a cleaner, more resilient energy future for Kerala. Together, we can meet today’s energy demands without compromising the needs of future generations.
